I’m David Preston Arehart, though my friends know me as “Cash.” The nickname stuck one summer working at the Scout Camp near my family farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It was during my teenage years that I discovered a passion for serving others — earning the rank of Eagle Scout and volunteering with my church youth group. As the twelfth generation of my family to call the Old Dominion home, I also developed a deep appreciation for the history of our Commonwealth, which has strongly influenced the path I've chosen in life.
I found my way to Williamsburg in 2001. After moving here for school and beginning my career at Colonial Williamsburg, it didn’t take long to realize this was a special place to call home. My time in Williamsburg was briefly interrupted a decade ago, when I accepted a position in Charlottesville with the University of Virginia. There, I worked with students as Director of Student Programs for the Sorensen Institute, fostering trust, civility, and respect in government.
In 2018, homesick for Williamsburg, I returned to my adopted community and now serve as Manager of Historic Interpretation at Colonial Williamsburg. In this role, I oversee many of the buildings in the Historic Area and the talented interpreters who welcome visitors from around the world.

Beyond my professional life, I’ve continued my commitment to service by volunteering with our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), graduating from LEAD Greater Williamsburg in 2023, and now serve on Williamsburg’s Public Arts Council, and the Tourism Development Grant Review Committee.
I believe in strengthening our community and improving the quality of life for all who live, learn, and work here — from students and members of the workforce, to homeowners and small business owners. We all face unique challenges that deserve responsive leadership and a Commissioner of the Revenue that promotes Transparency, Service, and Respect.
I’m grateful for the support and encouragement of my wife, Corey, the rest of my family, and so many friends, neighbors, and colleagues. With your help, I look forward to another opportunity to serve our community — this time working with the staff in the Commissioner’s office to create solutions, not more problems.
